WARWICK AGAINST RACISM MISSIONS & WHERE WE ARE AT

1. We are working with town officials and specifically the Warwick Superintendent, Dr. David Leach to reform Warwick school curriculum to include more POC culture and diversity; Have you seen the email the superintendent sent out regarding the need for changes in curriculum today?! We can happily confirm that WARWICK AGAINST RACISM, AKA ALL OF YOU kicked that into motion. He was so impressed with our protest, it led to talks between him and Ronald - he felt the need to get started NOW. Quote from his message for those that have not seen it: "Anticipate further enhancements to our curriculum, instruction, and professional development plans as we educate faculty, staff, and children to be active participants in a diverse democracy."

2. Mandate that all Warwick school staff go through a race and cultural awareness training; we will continue to work with the superintendent on this

3. Mandate that all Warwick police officers go through a race and cultural awareness training; we will continue reaching out to WVPD to work with us

4. Provide the youth of this town a platform to practice their civic duties and responsibilities; we have already been in contact with eager high school students that would love a leadership role within this group and expressed an immediate need to combat peer to peer racism in their classrooms, harsher punishments for students inciting racial slurs, making threats and the exclusion of POC

5. Form a partnership with Black Lives Matter and activate fundraising for the local BLM chapter at our live events; We will be fundraising at all of our live events moving forward for the local chapter, we are in contact with them regarding the fundraising, as well their priorities/needs

6. Establish ourselves as Warwick’s go-to resource for community allies that want to better educate themselves; I’ve seen some great materials already being posted within this group, perhaps we can work together to compile them to one official post. We can stick it in announcements so its easily accessible.

7. Establish a town-wide AND school-wide celebration for Black History Month; this is to be defined by Warwick’s black community

We cannot do this without all of you, and your support. We seriously rattled the racists in Warwick with our first couple demonstrations using our voices on Main Street. We hope you will join us in executing these initial missions, so we can continue moving towards even bigger and better changes within our community.

Thank you!
